Name of test

Cervical Neck Distraction Test

What it tests

This tests is performed in the presence of radicular symptoms in attempt to unload the compressed nerve and lessen the radicular symptoms.

How to do it

The patient is lying supine and the examiner places one hand under the patient's chin and the other hand around the occiput. The examinaer slowly lifts the patient's head and applies a distraction force of approxiamately 14 lbs.

The normal response

The test is positive if the radicular symptoms lessen or centralize towards the midline of the body.
